Project P7:
Change detection from multiple camera images

Project Goal

This project seeks to identify differences of pairs in camera images. Suppose we take an image of a location twice, form approximately the same vantage point and viewing position. Can we detect new objects in the scene, or objects that have disappeared? The project is motivated by the situation in Iraq, where still lots of people die through roadside improvised explosive devices.

Project Scope

The scope is to develop software that takes as input pairs of approximately aligned images, aligns them, and detects potential differences in both images.

Tasks

  • aligning pairs of images
  • distorting them so that they match
  • detecting and segmenting differences
